Every writer is searching for inspiration.
Sometimes it comes from a conversation. Sometimes it arrives while standing in a place that carries centuries of history. Sometimes it appears in the rhythm of everyday life.
Ghana offers all these experiences. Rich in oral traditions, literature, music & culture, it is a destination that encourages reflection, creativity & connection.
Whether you write novels, poetry, memoirs or journals, Ghana provides an inspiring backdrop for your next chapter.
A Nation Built on Storytelling
Long before stories appeared in print, they were shared around fires, in family compounds & through community gatherings. Storytelling remains central to Ghanaian culture. Proverbs, folklore & history continue to shape everyday conversations, preserving knowledge, passing wisdom from one generation to the next.
For writers, this living tradition offers a deeper appreciation of the power of words.
Experience Ghana Through Its Stories at Pa Gya! Literary Festival

Join us during one of West Africa’s most exciting literary gatherings, Pa Gya! A Literary Festival is held annually in Accra. This three-day event brings together writers, poets, publishers, academics, performers & creatives from Ghana, across Africa & the global diaspora.
Pa Gya (pronounce Pa Ja) originates from the Twi phrase meaning to strike flame or ignite. It sparks ideas, celebrates African voices, creates powerful conversations around identity, heritage & the future of storytelling. Guests enjoy author readings, panel discussions, spoken word, book launches, performances, art exhibitions & networking with literary minds from around the world.
This journey is for:
Writers & aspiring authors
Book lovers
Members of the African diaspora
Professionals ready for purposeful travel
Retired travellers seeking cultural richness
Anyone ready to reconnect with story & identity.
Guests may enjoy festival programming throughout the stay. Those wishing to contribute must submit directly to Pa Gya! Festival at https://writersprojectghana.com/pagya2026_call/
Submissions have been extended to 10th August 2026 & are managed directly by the organisers.
Places That Spark Creativity
Imagine beginning your day with coffee in a peaceful café before browsing an independent bookshop. Spend the afternoon exploring the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre or walking through Jamestown, where colourful murals and historic architecture tell stories of resilience and change.
Every corner of Accra offers a fresh perspective.

Beyond the Capital
In Elmina, history encourages reflection.
In Kumasi, tradition continues to shape modern life through art, craftsmanship and Ashanti heritage.
At Kakum National Park, the rainforest canopy offers a different kind of inspiration, inviting stillness and observation.
